Fayose accused of diverting N680m by EFCC



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State of diverting N680m from the state’s coffers to a private fixed deposit account, which was yielding N6m interest every month.

The N680m was alleged to have been part of the bailouts paid to the state government by the Federal Government for the payment of salary and pension arrears, according to the EFCC’s preliminary investigation into the matter.

Cult members arrested for killing sergeant




The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist member for killing a police sergeant, Victor Akpan, and injuring one Samuel Solomon, also a police sergeant.
The victims were all attached to Ikot Ekpene Divisional Headquarters.
It was learnt that on October 8, 2017, at about 0730hrs, a case of assault/malicious damage was reported against the said suspect, Aniebiet Uko ‘m’ 35 years of age by his father, Mr Peter Uko ‘m’ at 1, Okon Nko Street, Ikot Ekpene.

Weapons recovered in Kanu’s home – Abia CP


The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr Anthony Ogbizi, has said the police in a joint operation with the army on Sunday recovered a secret book belonging to the Indigenous people of Biafra, which contain the agitators’ military strategies and plans to take up arms.
The CP said the police also recovered weapons in an uncompleted building used by IPOB for the training of members of the Biafra Secret Service.

World Bank asked to focus on northern Nigeria by Buhari- World bank alleges


The President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, said on Thursday that the bank had concentrated on the northern region of Nigeria in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s request.
Kim and the Managing Director, International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, who spoke at separate press conferences in Washington DC, United States, also advised Buhari to invest in things that would enhance economic growth.

The Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa has destroyed 475 bottles and Jerry-cans of assorted beer in the area.

Alhaji Magaji Muhammad, the Information Officer in charge of the council, confirmed this in Dutse on Thursday.

Colonel Dasuki is asking the Supreme Court to compel the Federal Government to obey the bail orders granted to him by the Federal High Court Abuja and obey ECOWAS CCJ Judgement that ordered his immediate release on bail.

Court Orders Final Forfeiture Of N3bn Assets ‘Linked to Diezani’



A federal high court in Lagos has issued a final forfeiture against property worth over N3 billion linked to Diezani Alison-Madueke, former minister of petroleum resources.
Abdulaziz Anka, a judge, gave the order following an application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). claimed that Diezani paid $21,982,224 for the properties, adding that it believed that the funds were proceeds of crime.

Another Davido’s friend died mysteriously


The Lagos State Police Command has recovered substances suspected to be hard drugs from a car in which another friend of the hip-hop musician, David Adeleke, aka Davido, died.
The deceased, Olugbenga Abiodun, aka DJ Olu, and one Chime Amaechi, said to be a crew member of the ace artiste, was found dead on Saturday in a BMW car in a garage on Block B, Banana Island, Lagos.

Five people remanded in prison over N15m fraud



An Edo State High Court has remanded five former executive members of the Edo State Welders Association in custody.
The suspects were accused of stealing a sum of N15m belonging to the association.
They were arraigned on Monday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on 15 counts bothering on conspiracy, stealing by conversation, forgery and altering.

UNIBEN professor killed by gunmen



Amidst increasing concerns over the level insecurity in the Edo State, a senior staff of the University of Benin, Edo State, Prof. Paul Otasowie, has been killed by gunmen.
It was learnt Otasowie was shot dead by the armed men in front of his residence on Ekehuan road in Oredo Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday evening.

Court Awards N10bn Against Mobil for Bayelsa Oil Spillage


A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered Mobil Producing Nigeria Limited to pay N10bn to victims of a January 12, 1998 oil spillage which occurred when a 24 inches pipeline belonging to the company burst, releasing its content into the marine environment.
About 40,000 barrels of Qua Iboe light crude had spilled into the environment when the 25-year-old pipeline burst in Akwa Ibom State.

33yr old man allegedly killed his mother in Ogun state



33 year old Segun Ogunlusi has been arrested by the Ogun state police command, for allegedly stabbing his 60 year old mother, Abimbola Ogunlusi to death and burying her in a septic tank at their home at 16, Oketunde Street Molatori Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State on December 13th.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, says the younger sister of the suspect, Yetunde Ogunlusi, reported the matter to the police. According to Oyeyemi, the suspect’s sister said on the day of the incident, she left their mother at home with her brother but when she returned from work, she could not find her mother.

Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) uncovers uncover fake Trinidad and Tobago embassy in Lagos


The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command has discovered fake embassy operating in Lagos where many innocent members of the public had been swindled.

The Policemen attached to the squad swooped on them; two Chinese and two Nigerians were apprehended during the raid on their office situated inside an hotel,  Golden Point and Suite, on Duduyemi Street in Ejigbo.The Chinese: Liu Honyang, 47, Sun Xinai, 49; and their Nigerian collaborators, Oriyomi Olawale, 47 and Desmond Chinedu, 25,  conspired and swindled Nigerians who had planned  to travel out of the country to seek greener pastures.
It was gathered that the operatives acted on the intelligence reports received from members of the public about the illicit act of these Chinese using Nigeria citizens as cover.
